| Design Ideas | Low profile and spreading habit make these the ideal filler plants for almost any application in full sun. Use to flesh out the front of the aging shrub or perennial border. Group in irregular combinations or mass as a true groundcover to compound the potent floral color display. Exceptional choice for lining the edge of a walk or driveway and filling the narrow strip that divides front yards. A beautiful choice for banks and slopes as coverage and erosion control. In traditional rose gardens, plant among taller shrub or cutting roses to tidy up the ground plain underneath. Outstanding in white French boxes or very large terra cotta pots. Makes particularly elegant potted patio tree on porch or terrace. |

| History | This popular plant is of course a member of the Rosaceae family. The genus Rosa was classified by Linnaeus in the 18th century and today contains over one hundred species, all originating in the Northern Hemisphere. He chose the name after the ancient Latin word for the European species. From the wild species there have evolved thousands of hybrids and forms with many branches in the ancestral tree. This rose is the final product of a 35 year breeding program by Dr. Werner Noack of Noack Rosen, a German rose breeder famous for his commitment to disease resistant hybrids. Its parents are a Flower Carpet rose and another of Noack’s earlier hybrids named after his wife, R. x Margaret Merril. Noak started patenting his new roses with Flower Carpet Red patented in 1995. Practically maintenance-free yet extremely floriferous and vigorous plants can produce as many 2000 blooms per bush each season. |
