| Care Instructions | Thrives in organically rich, well-drained soil with a neutral pH. Water deeply, regularly during the first growing season to establish an extensive root system; once established, reduce frequency. Remove spent blooms for a tidy appearance. Prune foliage in fall. Needs little fertilization; an annual side dressing of organic compost is beneficial. Herbaceous peonies need winter chill to set bud and flower- typically 500 to 1000 hours. They are not recommended for USDA hardiness zones 9 – 11. |
