| History | This plant originated in Japan and was gifted to plant explorer Daniel J Hinkley by Mr. Suzuki, a nurseryman near Tokyo who deals exclusively in Aucuba. Though it was in fact named ‘Suruga Benton’ when given to Mr. Hinkley, it is more than likely a seedling raised from that cultivar; in Japan, clonal names are not always assigned. This plant was subsequently brought to Monrovia by Dan Hinkley. |
